Over the years with film and television, The Transformers have, some would say, been oversaturated. In the Energon Universe, being one of two ongoing flagship titles, Transformers get to return to their roots and it is a sight to behold.

Transformers vol 1, written and illustrated by Daniel Warren Johnson, is an absolute blast page to page. Johnson masterfully reintroduces readers to the Autobots and Decepticons while giving us something the movies up to this point have failed to give us; likable human protagonists. These first 6 issues fly by and give us a full range of emotion just as the series is getting started. This isn’t just a romp into the action genre, as we’re treated to absolutely heroic as well as devastating scenes to soak up from the opening issue.

The team behind the EU have truly outdone themselves and crafted not only one of the best series of 2023 but of 2024 as well, while maybe going down in history as the definitive Transformers comic. Every page and panel Daniel Warren Johnson writes and draws has so much detail and heart that any fan of the Transformers can’t afford to miss this series. Once again, the merging of all these properties is so seamless from series to series. This is truly a testament to how world and universe building could be with the right team. Fans of Transformers and anyone looking for an incredible series in it’s own right, look no further than Daniel Warren Johnsons Transformers.
