Review: Void Rivals vol 1 (More Than Meets The Eye) Energon Universe

The series that kicked off the wildly popular Energon Universe (EU), Void Rivals tells the tale of members of two different races living on opposite ends of the Sacred Ring. When they crash land on a lifeless planet, they must work together if they hope to get back home.

Written by Robert Kirkman, writer of such hits as The Walking Dead and Invincible, and illustrated by Lorenzo De Felici (above and below), the same team behind Oblivion Song, Void Rivals is expertly written and beautifully drawn. For readers, new and familiar, there’s something in this series for everyone. Whether it be rivals coming together for the sake of survival, amazing art or narrative, or for Transformers deep cuts, Void Rivals has plenty to offer. While being one of only two currently ongoing series set in the EU, it has the luxury of breathing room, whereas the limited series we all want more of have to wrap up in 5 issues.

The Energon Universe shows no signs of slowing down or telling stories that are nothing short of incredible. The creators of the EU have stated there won’t ever be more than 4 series going at any given time, so these are series everyone can read on a budget, unlike some of the bigger publishers, with 6-8 crossover issues per event. I slept on Void Rivals for a good year. After reading these first 6 issues, I’m officially hooked. Like the EU series and Minis I’ve read before, Void Rivals shouldn’t be missed!

9/10.
