Review: Absolute Batman Vol 2 (Abomination)

Absolute Batman is on a hot streak, and for good reason. Picking up after the defeat of Black Mask, this second volume expands upon this absolute universe and introduces some fan favorite Rogues such as Bane and Mr. Freeze. Written by Scott Snyder with continually amazing art by Nick Dragotta, with longtime Batman artist Clay Mann illustrating the origin of Bane, this series continues to dominate the sales charts and it’s very easy to see why.

With the introduction of Bane, this allows the series to move into a more physical direction. Given the stature of this iteration of Batman you’d think it would be an easy battle, but no. As strong and intelligent as Batman is, this version of Bane is ten times the brute Batman can be. This can make for some intense, brutal, and over the top fights that lead to an epic conclusion, featuring the introduction of absolute Catwoman. The beginning of this volume introduces the absolute Mr. Freeze and given his limited time in the issues, I do hope we get to see more of this monstrous version of the character as this universe expands.

Scott Snyder is quickly becoming a definitive writer for Batman and this collection is another showcase of that point. Absolute Batman is a top tier series not just for DC but for comics in general. Smartly written and beautifully illustrated, this remains a smart iteration of the character while expanding the Universe in bold and exciting new ways. Whether you’re a fan of the character or not and realistically, who isn’t, Absolute Batman has something for all fans of the Bat to love and swoon over.

10/10.
