There are movies that are timely, such as the first two Terminator films, that ignited paranoia in generations for years to come over cybernetics and AI becoming hyper intelligent. Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is in the exact same vein as those movies, given its messages and warnings about AI and phone over usage. Directed by Gore Verbinski, his first director role in a decade, and Starring Sam Rockwell, Haley Lu Richardson, Zazie Beets and more, this movie will no doubt in my mind be looked back on as a classic and one of the most timely and honest films of the twenty first century. At times the film is almost satirical in how it addresses topics such as phone overuse and school shootings. It never crosses the line about those topics but it feels like its tapped into the modern day culture and the release window for this movie couldn’t be more on the nose.

Taking place on the seemingly war torn streets of LA, Rockwell stars as a man from the future, who keeps resetting his own time and returning to a diner to assemble a select group that he is certain will save the world from a child who will create a super intelligent AI that will bring about the end of days. The layout of the film is great and keeps flipping back and forth between present day and a few days prior, giving the chosen saviors all their own backstory that ties the narrative together. The movie also has a surprising amount of humor sprinkled throughout that sometimes gives the film a satirical feel. Overall I think this works well and will be one of the elements that keeps the movie relevant for years to come. All of the cast due fantastic jobs and bring a welcome diversity to the film.

One of my only real complaints about the film is that it can run a little long towards the end but it isn’t something that takes away from the film, just a nitpick. I’m loving that Hollywood is endorsing these Anti-AI films like this film and last years Good Fortune. If anyone can make that sort of statement and be heard, its Hollywood. Overall, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is the movie the world needs right now. The movie that will make people think about the things they do in their own lives and how it can hurt or disconnect you from reality in very significant ways. I hope this movie becomes the hit it deserves to be, whether that comes by word of mouth or otherwise. Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die will go down as one of 2026’s most influential and talked about films.
